The brief given for this project was to design a ‘satellite’ sales center for Calgary Municipal Land Corporation that was ‘nomadic’ in that it could travel around Calgary’s East Village hosting both public events as well as providing CMLC with a presence in various developers’ sales centers. As such, temporality, transience and fluidity became our point of departure for this project.

In an effort to encourage interaction with the public, the sales center was conceived as an ephemeral ‘pod’ that could both open and close based on need, location and desired levels of activity.

The materiality of the pod consists of birch plywood ribs held together tectonically by a structural diaphragm of orange-colored plexi glass. The intent here is that even when the pod is in its dormant/closed phase, the public can still peer into the sales center and observe the curiosities and marketing materials that lay inside, fostering spectacle 24/7.
